Sour Crop in a Hen

  Back

by Helen Stephens Helen Stephens
This little hen came in to the practice off her food and a bit depressed. Her crop (forestomach) was full of fluid and there was a foul smell coming from her beak. We suspected a condition called sour crop.
We opened up her crop and emptied out the fermented contents. During the op we removed a foreign body from her crop which turned out to be a rather large grape. We saw her today for her post op check and she is doing well. We thought she really needed a name so from now on she will forever be known as Chardonnay ??????
